张衡（公元78—139年)，出生于东汉的南阳郡。他是举世闻名的科学家、文学家、发明家，被尊称为“科圣”。早在20世纪50年代，张衡被列为世界文化名人，与伽利略、哥白尼、达尔文等齐名，在科学文化史上竖起了一座巍巍丰碑。为了纪念张衡，1970年，国际天文学联合会将月球上的一座环形山命名为“张衡山”；1977年，将太阳系中一颗编号为1802的小行星命名为“张衡星”；2003年，又将编号为9092的小行星命名为“南阳星”。
Zhang Heng was born in Nanyang City in the Eastern Han Dynasty, between the year of 78AD and 139 AD. He is the world-known scientist ,writer and inventor, known as “the scientific saint”. Early in the 1950's, Zhang Heng was regarded as the world- known scholar ,and could be equally famous as Galileo, Copernicus and Darwin.He's like a monument in the history of science and culture.To honor Zhang Heng, the International Astronomy Association named a circle- shaped mountain on the moon as “Zhang Heng Mountain” in 1970; and No.1802 small planet in the solar system as "Zhang Heng Star" in 1977; and No.9092 small planet as "Nanyang Star" in 2003.
